President NIPO on National IPR Policy

Prof. T C James, President, NIPO participated in a panel discussion on Lok Sabha TV on 24 May 2016 discussing the National PR Policy. While welcoming government initiative in bringing out a national policy document, he stated that independent India was following an IP Policy that was aimed at promotion of domestic industry and ensuring access to knowledge and medicine. He lamented that the Policy did not explicitly promise a legislation for protection of utility models. He also stressed the need for investing about 4 per cent of GDP in R&D to make India a country of innovation, to make knowledge economy a reality. He concluded by observing that a policy is only as good as its implementation.
