Who We Are

NIPO is an association of creators, users and owners of Intellectual Property. Members of NIPO include scientists, authors, artists, filmmakers, musicians, corporates, civil servants, academicians, legal experts and intellectuals among others.

A brief introduction to the Members and Experts associated with NIPO is as under :

21. Dr. Atindra Sen

Dr Sen belongs to the Indian Administrative Service and is presently posted as DG ICSSR. A Ph.D. from Boston University Dr. Sen has held various assignments including in the LBS National Academy of Administration and Registrar University of Delhi.

22. Mr. MMS Karki

Mr Karki has been a senior scientist at National Institute of Science Communication And Information Resources (NISCAIR) as well as the editor of a bimonthly journal entitled Journal of Intellectual Property Rights during which period he contributed many articles on this subject in the national and international journals. As editor of the journal, he has been in close contact with several renowned international and national IPR experts. Mr. Karki has edited a book entitled “Maharaja's New Clothes—A Patent Chronicle” published by the Publications and Information Directorate of CSIR and also provided active editorial support to two renowned Indian IPR experts, viz. Dr R A Mashelkar and Mr Shahid Alikhan in the preparation of their book entitled “ Intellectual Property and Competitive Strategies in the 21 st Century” published by Kluwer Law International.

23. Dr. M.D. Nair

Dr. Nair has a Ph.D. Degree from the University of Illinois , USA . Besides authoring over 80 publications in various national and international journals, he is the holder of several patents on new therapeutic agents and has co-authored three books published by Academic Press, John Wiley, Birkhauser, etc. He has been a Consultant to WHO for setting up Pharmaceutical Projects in Arab countries and on Traditional Medicines in New Delhi, Bangkok and Jakarta; an active member of WHO's Essential Drugs Programme and of the Delhi Society for Rational Use of Drugs. He has been an Advisor to Government and Private Organisations on Science & Technology and Director of the Board of many Pharmaceutical Companies, Governing Councils of various Academic Bodies, Universities, Medical Institutes and Hospitals, Panels of Council of Scientific Research, Indian Council of Medical Research, All-India Council of Technical Education, Export Promotion Council of India, etc. He is a member of the Mashelkar Committee for restructuring the Indian Drug Regulatory system, modifying the Indian Drugs & Cosmetics Act, forming a National Drug Authority and developing strategies for eliminating Spurious and Sub-standard drugs etc. Dr. Nair, after retirement from SPIC, Chennai, continues to be actively involved in industry affairs and is a Consultant to the Pharmaceutical Industry in India and abroad. His areas of specialty include Patents, Documentation and Information Management for the Pharmaceutical Industry, R&D Strategies and Management, Project Identification and Evaluation and Development of Biotechnology and Traditional Medicine based products.

24. Ms. Manisha Gupta

Manisha Gupta is an innovator and researcher on issues related to intellectual property with a special focus on traditional themes of the artisanal sector. She has recently concluded a research assignment for UNIDO aimed at finding the suitable legal instruments for community ownership of TK in an artisanal cluster. Her future pursuits include finding a methodology for creating an IPR /Patenting Infrastructure for traditional craft communities, artisan communities and designers, based on the best global practices and working out a sharing mechanism for the wealth associated with such knowledge.

25. Mr. K S Money

Mr. Money belongs to the Indian Administrative Service and is presently Chairman APEDA (Agricultural and processed Food Products Export Development Authority). APEDA is an autonomous organization attached to the Ministry of Commerce of the Government of India. The main function of APEDA is to build links between Indian producers and the global markets. APEDA undertakes the briefing of potential sources on government policy and producers. Along with providing referred services and suggesting suitable partners for joint ventures besides arranging buyer-seller meets.

26. Mr. Anthony De Sa

Mr. De Sa belongs to the Indian Administrative Service and is posted as Jt. Secy to GOI Ministry of Commerce & Industry looking after the prestigious Trade Policy Division dealing with WTO matters.

27. Prof. J George

Prof. J George is Professor and Head, Faculty of Economics and Development Planning, HIPA, Gurgaon and currently on leave to pursue trade-related research at the Research and Information System for the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (RIS), New Delhi.

28. Mr. Rajeev Ranjan

Mr. Rajeev Ranjan belongs to the Indian Administrative Service and has worked extensively in the field of Intellectual Property Rights including in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion Government of India where he has handled amendments to the Patent Act and related reforms.

29. Dr. Kewal K Likhyan - President IP2Revenues LLC and Advisor NIPO

Dr Kewal holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute; his Ph.D. thesis was sponsored by IBM at MIT. Kewal has a successful background in the development and commercialization of Intellectual Property (IP). As DuPont/INVISTA's long-time Director of Licensing & Joint-Ventures, and a Patent Fellow, he has over 20 years of leadership experience in extracting value from IP. He played lead roles in DuPont's Pioneering Research (5 patents), Plant Start-up (DuPont KEVLAR) and Market Development (Nonwovens) among others. He negotiated multi-million dollar IP deals with reputable entities like Tulsa University , Brookhaven National Laboratory, Univ. of Delaware , Lenzing, Pavilion, Polyonics , Virginia Tech, Drexel, and MIT, and forged strategic alliances in Thailand , China , India and Taiwan . His extensive experience includes key areas like patent filing, patent procurement, IP strategy development, acquisitions, commercialization and licensing. Kewal currently chairs the Strategic Alliances Committee at the Licensing Executive Society (LES), and he was involved in resolving global IP issues at the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), the U.S. Patent Office (USPTO), and the Russian Patent Office.

30. Rodney D Ryder

Mr. Rodney D. Ryder is a Partner with Scriboard, a full service commercial law firm with cutting edge specialisation in technology, new media and intellectual property laws. He is presently Advisor to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India on the implementation of the Information Technology Act, 2000. He has been nominated as a 'Leading Lawyer' in Intellectual Property, Technology, Communications and Media Law by Asia Law, Who'sWhoLegal, Asia Legal 500, amongst other International publications. Mr. Ryder is also Advisor to the Data Security Council of India [a NASSCOM initiative] on the structuring of industry data privacy and information security policies and contractual standards.

His second book, Intellectual Property and the Internet, published by LexisNexis is perhaps the only one of its kind in Asia. The text has been acknowledged to be an authoritative work by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and has been quoted in the first and only judgement by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on domain names. He is Advisor to the National Internet Exchange of India [NiXI] and a member of the panel of independent and neutral arbitrators with NiXI. He is also a member of Supreme Court Bar Association [SCBA], Delhi High Court Bar Association [DHCBA], International Bar Association [IBA] and Inter Pacific Bar Association [IPBA], ‘Legal Action Group’ constituted by the Ministry of Information Technology and Communication, Government of India, to advice on the implementation of the ‘Act’ [www.cca.gov.in].

He is in the Advisory Board of Corporate Law Advisor [CLA], Patent and Trademark Reporter [PTR] and Law Wire™. He is also an Honorary Legal Advisor of Nepal Telecom Authority [NTA], Computer Association of Nepal [CAN], Office of the Attorney General, Sri Lanka, Crime Police Station, C. O. D. Head Quarters, Bangalore, Cyber Crime Police Station, Hyderabad and Delhi Police Training Centre. He is in the Editorial Board of The GNLU Journal of Law, Development and Politics [GJLDP].
