NIPO provides policy inputs to the central and state governments, UN bodies and other international organizations and interacting with similar institutions in other countries such as France, Egypt and Singapore for advocating IP issues. Members of NIPO include renowned professionals and experts from various fields, State Governments of Kerala & Sikkim; attorneys, civil society organizations, students, academicians etc. NIPO has organized lectures and workshops on intellectual property issues in the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration Mussorie, Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy Dehradun, Indian Institute of Public Administration New Delhi, Regional Training Institute of Customs Excise and Narcotics New Delhi, Haryana Institute of Public Administration Gurgaon and various academic institutions throughout the country.
NIPO has been granted the Permanent National Non-Governmental Organization Observer Status by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). WIPO grants this status to Organizations which are essentially concerned with intellectual property matters within the competence of WIPO and are able to offer constructive, substantive contributions to the deliberations of the Assemblies of WIPO. NIPO is one of the first organizations from India to be granted such status and joins the league of American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), British Copyright Council (BCC), Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII), German Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright Law (GRUR), Arab Federation for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights (AFPIPR); the European Commercial Patent Services Group (PatCom) among others.
NIPO has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Government of India, for developing training programmes for protection and commercial exploitation of intellectual property rights for scientists, administrators and enforcement agencies.
NIPO is a partner organization of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy programme (BASCAP) which is global approach designed to support individual company and organizational efforts and amplify business messages with national governments and intergovernmental organizations to connect all business sectors and cut across all national borders in the fight against counterfeiting and piracy.
